Re-roofing a house, or roofing a new one?

Residential Roofing

Most home roofing decisions come down to three things: how hot the space below gets, how the roof will look from the street, and how long you want to go before touching it again. We have been answering those questions for Tricity homeowners for over 35 years.

Material options

  • Colour-coated sheets

The default for visible home roofs — clean finish, standard colours, quick installation.

  • Insulated colour-coated sheets

When the room directly below the roof gets uncomfortably hot in May and June.

  • Khaprail sheets

For porches, boundary walls and elevations where a tiled look is wanted.

Design considerations

  • Slope and drainage — where the water goes in a heavy Tricity monsoon
  • Heat gain over habitable rooms versus storage or parking
  • Existing framing condition if you are replacing an old roof
  • Visibility from the street and how the roof reads with the elevation
